Match Today: Chelsea vs Crystal Palace 01-10-2022 English Premier League

Chelsea will face a tough test against Crystal Palace in Graham Potter's first Premier League game with his new team.

Patrick Vieira will aim to get his team back up to speed with another tough game on the cards. Crystal Palace will have to meet the challenge posed by Chelsea at Selhurst Park, and the Frenchman will be keen to lead his team out of the slump they find themselves in.

Crystal Palace showed some improvement in their form after their opening night defeat to Arsenal. They have so far managed to draw with Liverpool, Brentford and Newcastle United, although the defeat to Manchester City was difficult for Vieira. After six rounds of matches, Vieira's men have found themselves in 16th place, something the manager would like to address.

With just one win this season against Aston Villa, the Crystal Palace boss will be eager to snatch another win when he faces a severely shapeless Chelsea.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

Chelsea made a careless start to their domestic campaign amid plenty of drama, and while their copious spending in the window yielded far less results than expected, the Blues will aim to see the team bounce back and prove their shaky start to the campaign. Chelsea Thomas Tuchel earlier this month appointed Graham Potter as the German's replacement.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion coach has overseen a difficult draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League and will aim for an even better result in his first Premier League game as Chelsea manager. Chelsea have won their last 10 games against Crystal Palace in all competitions.

Chelsea have kept clean sheets in six of their last eight matches against Crystal Palace in all competitions. Chelsea have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven games against Crystal Palace in all competitions.

Crystal Palace did not keep a clean sheet at home this season. Less than 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last six home matches in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

While Chelsea need points on board to keep their hopes alive for the title challenge, they already trail Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City by a large margin.

Up to four first-team players were left out of the picture ahead of the Chelsea game, with Jack Butland, James Tomkins, Nathan Ferguson and James MacArthur out of the competition due to multiple injuries.

Patrick Vieira is expected to name an unchanged lineup from Crystal Palace's draw with Newcastle United. A 4-3-3 formation is expected on the pitch, with Terek Mitchell, Marc Guy, Joachim Andersen and Joel Ward likely forming a four-way defense for Crystal Palace, Jeffrey Schlubb, Chic Doukuri and Iberici Eazy will take their places in the center of the field.

For now, Graham Potter doesn't have much to worry about with his squad, as the international break is helping some players get back in shape. Chief among them goalkeeper Edward Mendy, who has been training this week, was also thought to have taken a knock while on international duty, but the striker is expected to be fine.
